İksir

We give young people the support their studies demand.

İksir runs tutoring, mentorship and short courses for pupils in compulsory and upper-secondary school. Sessions are held in Swedish, English and Turkish.

Our mission

İksir exists so that a pupil’s options are not decided by how much time, language or contacts their family happens to have. We provide the support school does not have time for and home cannot always give.

The work is done by tutors and volunteers who went through the Swedish school system themselves. The programmes are open to every pupil, whatever their background.

What we offer

Three strands that connect. A pupil can start with any of them and meet the same tutors.

  • Tutoring

Homework support in small groups, with tutors who know the subject. Maths, Swedish, English and science.

  • Mentorship

Every pupil is matched with a mentor who stays for the whole term — someone to ask, and someone who asks back.

  • Courses and languages

Short courses in study technique and presentation skills, plus language teaching for those who want to keep more than one language alive.

From first call to follow-up

Four steps. We take new pupils throughout the term, subject to places.

  1. Get in touch

You call or email. We arrange a short conversation to understand the situation.

  2. Assessment

We go through which subjects are involved, where the difficulty lies and which times work for the family.

  3. Tutoring

The pupil joins a group and is assigned a mentor. We stay in touch with home during the term.

  4. Follow-up

At the end of term we review together and adjust the arrangement for the next one.
